YOGA MAT – OMBRE COLLECTION
Featuring the «SHADED MOSS» colour
Location: Redwood Forest, Rotorua, New Zealand
Miklos and I have family that live in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand and during our visit earlier this year, in January of 2017, we took along with us our OMBRE COLLECTION of mats as we knew we would find some stunning settings that would go perfectly with our nature inspired collection of colours. We had so much fun getting creative in the beautiful settings of New Zealand. And here is one of those shoots!!! SCROLL DOWN for more! 🙂
We had heard about the Redwood Forests, Whakarewarewa Forest,
from our travel guide book and as it was a quick 1 hour drive to Rotorua, we planned on doing a day trip to the woods from our stay at the Mount. We chose to head over on an overcast day, so that it wouldn’t be too hard to rip ourselves away from the beaches of Mount Maunganui.
The forest contains real California Redwoods, planted there in the early 1900s. They were planted as an experiment to test the suitability of different native and exotic forest species for commercial planting. We can confirm their experiment was a SUCCESS and the land is EXTREMELY fertile…lol. I cannot believe that in over just 100 years, grew a few GIANT Redwoods! You’ll find a few of these gentle GIANTS randomly pop-out along the main trail.
But…enough of ooooing and aaaing over the big trees! We were there for the MOSS! and Oh yes! we found some!
I know we didn’t have to fly across the globe to find some moss. But since we were visiting a magical forest, I thought perhaps we would find some magical moss! As expected, we found some thick patches of beautiful moss at the foot of the trees and we found the perfect trunk for our beloved SHADED MOSS
to snuggle into.
We also expected to find of course plenty of FERNS!!! The famous ferns of New Zealand can be easily spotted everywhere! No need to go deep into the forest to find these beauties. You’ll spot them on road sides, in peoples backyards, in the bush! New Zealand is bursting with them, and we found plenty of ferns alongside some beautiful moss, and got creative with the mat and shot for a few moments on the bare floor of the forest.
We continued on down the main foot path and reached a stunning sulphur pool! I have never seen so many stunning hues of green all smashed together! An extremely beautiful site. Avataresque.
We ended up staying in this spot for a while, just taking in all the magical colours and sounds and of course found another moment to roll out the mat and start shooting!
We hope you enjoyed our behind the scenes pics of our photoshoot with the SHADED MOSS
yoga mat and of our day-trip adventure to these incredible woods, which you now must note down as part of your hit list when visiting the North Island of New Zealand. It is an amazing place that you can either spend 30 minutes or hours, up to you. We saw plenty of local people turning up at dusk, going for a run on the trails after work – what a life!!! There were also plenty of biking or hiking trails that would take about 3 to 4 hours! So we have that in mind for when we next visit NZ.
I was so pleased with myself for bringing the Shaded Moss on this day trip! I was pretty annoying and let Miklos know it too on our drive home… «I TOLD YOU bringing the mats was a good idea»… hee hee. But its true! I had this gut feeling that it was going to be a match made in heaven and the perfect setting to capture the soft beauty of one of my favourite coloured mats!!! Sadly it was too chilly for me to #STOPDROPANDYOGA on the mat. Will just have to go back and do another shoot! 😛
